Redefining the Impossible

1and1 emailed me back saying they had fixed my problem but it was still broken so I bounced the email.

VNC on laptop controlling PC is ok apart from Intellimail not working properly. The floating composition windows that track the main window do not work. Need a way to do email from laptop or PC while saving message threads.

PC hung again, h/w acceleration down to one from bottom. XP fading window effects look poor.

Got Nokia 7250i for wife. £35 a month for 250 minutes cross network any time. It's on O2 so reception at home should be much better than T mobile.

Giving textplus a try in an attempt to improve my data entry speed. It works but it keeps popping up menus of suggestions that get in the way. It will take some getting used to. Also, the nag screens are displayed continually while using it.

After10 minutes playing textplus is something that will take getting used to. I think i am making fewer errors but i am not typing as fast. The automatically inserted space is a mixed blessing, sometimes I want to add more letters to a word to make it into a different word. It might be useful, I need to learn to live with it.

Tried Noviiremote but it kept locking up the palm so it is no more. I'll give Omniremote a try.

Omniremote gone too. Didn't work very well and it doesn't take long to realise that using a stylus to channel hop is going to be less than ideal.

Noviremote looks far more professional than omniremote which looks primitive by comparison. The latter allows buttons to be drawn and defined but I don't think that is enough of a reason for it to look like noddy shareware.

I'm being slightly more verbose than usual because l am still playing with textplus. The biggest problem I have with it is the boxes of words popping up:

  • they appear where I am writing and I accidentally select a word that I then have to delete.

  • I have to keep an eye on them for the word I am writing.

Isilo looks good, it can format monospaced text properly (unlike plucker) and can scroll horizontally.

Hum, converted project source to isilo and it's done a virtually perfect job. The file is large (1.6M) but it's quite readable.

I did investigate mobireader but:

  • it isn't free

  • usenet thinks isilo is better

  • isilox

Zapped TextPlus. It was too fiddly:

  • lists would appear where I was writing and the wrong word would be selected by mistake

  • while writing I had to keep an eye on the list to see if the word I was writing had appeared

  • I don't think it improved my writing speed

  • It kept popping up a nag screen, probably after accidental double tap. This lead to two annoying options

      1. Add half-written word I was writing to database

      2. Delete word.

  • It kept butting in when I used apps that were not approppiate. The application list in TextPlus did not work immediately

  • don't want to pay for it. DateBk5 and Isilo are on my shopping list (when the trials run out)
