Redefining the Impossible

Slow VNC Server

I've come across this before and it came up again today and I don't think I've blogged it. Sometimes vnc on a windows server can be particularly lethargic to the extent that it becomes painful to use. The solution I have found is to disable video hardware acceleration on the server end (Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshooting).

Standing ovations for this fabulous man! We're using VNC for a lot of technical support and this solution is a real relief. Thanks very much!

Sorry man but I can't get to the "Control Panel", neither to the Diplay Settings. When I run VNC Server I can only get to the VNC Server Properties, in which I can't find the display settings, could u please tell me how to get to the display settings?? thanks man

The easiest way is just to right click on the windows desktop and click on properties in the menu. then click on the settings tab, press the advanced button and the 'troubleshoot' tab. This is for Windows XP, for other version of windows the names of the controls may be different but it's essentiall the same. Basicaly it is the windows display settings that need changing, not vnc.

a better way to speed up the viewer is the following:

configure VNC service....

capture method.....

here change the default (use vnc hooks...) to poll for changes....

and thats it!!

enjoy a fast conection.

What Peter suggested to disable video hardware acceleration seems to work best as far as I can tell. Like night and day. This is as compared to changing the VNC Capture Method.

Thanks again Peter. Jeff
