p whatever
Simply prints the value of a variable on a new line. It is equivalent to:
print "#{whatever.inspect}\n"
or
puts "#{whatever.inspect}"
Who needs debuggers? Well I do occasionally but a well aimed print can shed light into the darkest gloom.
Moral: read more books.
