Kill Command

How could I do a catchup and not comment on Kill Command? This is a new talent bought at level 66. While fighting a mob, if you get a critical hit then the Kill Command is enabled for a few seconds and if you hit the button in time your pet will deal a 100 damage or so. The problem I have found with it is that during a fight I am staring at the button on the action bar, waiting for it to become enabled so I can bang it. I know some people write macros that spam Kill Command and suppress the error messages that come up if it wasn't enabled but I hate banging exception handlers like that. Maybe I could study the numbers that float up during a fight and recognise a crit but it would be a bit like those guys on the Matrix staring at the green screens.

In my grinding Kill Command isn't the difference between living and dying, ultimately I will probably forget it is there.

Another Tip

I have found mapping the V key to arcane shot very useful. It is easily reached by my left hand to quickly stop runners. My right hand is normally on the mouse these days, running my grinding macro. This macro is so good that I even use it to deal with adds. It is getting so that I almost forget what the 1 to = keys do. Of these the one I use most often is probably Disengage: I only use Feign Death as a last resort if a number of mobs are targetting Mae. Two Disengages are usually enough to stop Mae being attacked by a single foe.

H is mend pet, and I use this in almost every fight.

Gift of Blizzard

Maezyn, being a draenai has the racial spell 'Gift of the Naaru' which is a nice little heal over time. She found it very useful in solo meleeing bosses before she got the pet. It seems she can now cast it on her pet and I am looking forward to trying out both Mend Pet and Gift of the Naaru to see how tough the pet can be.

As a Draenai Marksman she is not looking forward to running around ridden with diseases: no Stoneform, no Improved Mend Pet.

When you have floating combat text on, crits are in BOLD and their size is a little bigger. Normal attacks are not.

If you remember one of the first quests you did at lvl 1-3 you might remember having to cast that on an injured passenger from the Exodar. You can cast the Gift on ANY friendly player or NPC including some NPC's that you have to escort.

Staring at the combat text isn't much more attractive than staring at the action bar, I'd rather be looking at the action.

I'm aware I can heal others, I have tried it on the pet and it worked, even with the pet at full health. Mae has only just left the noob island and hasn't faced an opponent over level 10 or anything that took longer than eight seconds to gun down since she has had the pet so I haven't had a chance to try the Gift out in anger.

You misunderstand me. Under the advanced page in your interface options, there is an option to turn on scrolling(or arcing) combat text. You can kind of see it here: (screenshot). It displays the damage and such you do, over the target that took the damage. That way you don't have to watch the combat text window, just watch the combat. In the screenshot(that's my mage) its the +150 mana thing above my toon's head. It also appears over your enemy, eg, it will flash big white numbers like 276(or whatever) when you dmg it, and if it's a crit it might say 500 (in bold). Spells or special skills will show up yellow, and pet damage i believe is a kind of orange.

OK Gotcha. I do have the numbers float up, that's what I was referring to by the green matrix thing. I remember seeing the big bold numbers when my pally managed to crit. When the pet's frenzying and the Hunter's auto-shotting and has a DoT up there are a LOT of numbers to go through but I will try watching out for the big bold ones.

I've tried it and I can confirm that big bouncing white numbers appearing mean a crit has happened and the Kill Command will be available for a few seconds. Big Orange numbers are the wrong type of crit.

It is still something else to worry about in a fight. I normally focus on pet health.
