Redefining the Impossible

WoW Daily News Issue 131

On a Roll

Set off to Western Plaguelands. First I went into the runined town to set light to four towers. The first tower had a level 57 elite inside but killed him anyway. Carried on blasting ghouls and was really rocking. Swigged an Elixir of the Mongoose and didn't look back. The next three level 57 elites all died in just under forty seconds each. I did pour everything into them: Bestial Wrath, arcane shots, multishot whenever the cooldowns were up. At the end of the fights Tiddles would need a bandage but Mae was ok: gave her a mana break before the fights and she didn't need one after.

Did the first of the cauldrons. While I waited for the cauldron lord to spawn I cleared everything else. Was running at 40000 XP/hr, the ghouls were low fifties and no challenge. When the cauldron lord appeared I dispatched him, took a sample from the cauldron and went for quest turnins. This didn't quite ding but discovering the next cauldron field and killing a mob there did and Mae was 57. 56 flew by.

Unfortunately the next field was occupied by mages AoEing so pretty much no chance of getting the next cauldron lord. Went on to Eastern Plaguelands but decided to park there the night.

No Dolly for Mae

Tried the quest to get three parts of a doll for a ghost girl. Picked up the first two parts but couldn't click on the third. After a while got annoyed and went back to Western Plaguelands. Here there appeared to be a pair of players attacking the cauldron. Not wanting competition I went back to Chillwind point and turned in two stacks of Minions Scourgestones. I then flew to Hopes Light Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands to buy more bullets and then on to collect termites. This again was a killing spree but as the monsters were further apart it wasn't as productive as the other killing sprees which may be why I didn't see anyone else there the whole time. I was only managing 15000 XP/hr which would take me nine hours to level.

My favourite monsters were the Mages: level 54 and very clothy, killed one in seven seconds. Pooky can't swing a two-hander twice in seven seconds. Most things fell quickly, even Stitched Horrors.

Got all the termites and used the ghost gryphon to go back to Darrowshire to try to get the damn doll. This time could only get two other parts of the doll. Had a shave (me not Mae) while waiting for parts to respawn but no joy. Abandoned the buggy quest in disgust.

Hunter Talents

Since getting the 41 point Beastmaster Talent, The Beast Within, I have been putting my points into the Marksman tree for extra ranged power. I've put five points in 5% more ranged crit (unbuffed crit is 12%, 15% with elixir of Mongoose) and I need six more points to get 'Aimed Shot' a nice powerful opening shot. To get to this talent I have had to choose between five points in 'Improved Hunters Mark' which increases Tiddles melee power to a mob under Hunters Mark or having more mana efficient Stings and Shots. I've ended up going for a compromise: share the five points between the two. I'm torn because mana efficiency is not a big problem at the moment and I don't always remember to put hunters mark on adds. I have tied hunters mark to pet attack with a macro so the initial Hunters Mark is automatic (damn good that macro). I can use the same macro during a fight to mark adds but it's something I usually overlook as I am busy fighting!

At level 70 I have the option of abandoning 'The Beast Within' 41 point talent and instead going 40/21/0 and getting the Scattershot from the Marksman tree. This is effectively a short range stun shot and sounds more useful than Beast Within. Beast Within makes Mae turn red, increases her dps by 10% and makes her immune to stuns. However, she rarely gets stunned, the 10% isn't a big deal and I don't really care what colour she is. Beast Within may be yet another PvP talent like all the others that are aimed at flag runners. 70 is a way off and it's just a respec or two to give scattershot a try. Don't worry: there's no chance of dropping the 'Beastial Wrath', I love my Big Red Kitty.

Todo List

Going out this evening and probably servers down tomorrow so little prospect of level 58 for a couple more days. I can finish off the cauldrons if I can get to them when they are not being farmed. There are odd chores to do in Eastern Plaguelands (freeing spirits and hitting the Undercroft) but I would really like to go to Silithus as it's the last area in Azeroth that is totally new to me (apart from lowbie horde areas). I have a feeling that one or two solid questing sessions in Silithus would pretty much see Mae through the Dark Portal.

Got more than enough cash for Mae's epic mount and could even buy the runecloth for a saber but far too mean to do that. Not sure what to do about the saber: still want one but don't want to work for it sad She's carrying enough runecloth and morrowgrain for about 600 more rep which still leaves about 15400 to go.

Hum, four or five more Arcanite Rod sales would buy the runecloth, fifteens days of transmuting arcanite, two weeks. Will she be sixty in two weeks? Unless I get an epic drop that gives Pooky a ranged weapon with 300 dps then YOU BETCHA.

BTW, the scarlet crusade people in the castle south of the flight point at Eastern Plaguelands (Tyr's hand? I dunno) drop runecloth, I found out last night. :) Helpful if you find an Eastern Plaguelands quest that requires killing them. :D

Sithilus is more... insecty IIRC, so less Runecloth drops. I went there for a little bit to get to 58...

Hum, those guys are elites if I recall, paladin self-healing types. The level 57 elites dropped four runecloth apiece so elites could be good to grind but hard work. I'd need to kill around 1000 of them.

Don't like those bug things, very boring drops (cracked carapaces etc).

Congrataz on the ding.

My hunter is just short of 45 now. I went and based myself in Gadgetzan as there seemed plenty of quests even though they are supposed to be for a higher level. Someone suggested that I should be in Feralas for my level but I could not find any quests in the south and the trip to Feathermoon seemed too far.

Picked up all the quests I could and headed south to do the Ogres, East for the bandits the down to the pirate camp for the pirates, shipment and pirate hats. That place is amazing. Mobs everywhere and a whole bunch of players from both sides mostly AoE'ing the place. I had not seen too much paladin play but there was a lvl 45 dwarf that was aggroing about 5-6 mobs at a time and killing them all. Very impressive which I told him to his amusment. The pirate hat drops were very scarce until I had finished the quest to kill 30 odd different pirates. After that was done the hats dropped of nearly everyone. Sneaky game.

I trained King Banglash in STV the other day and he is now very loyal. Had a few issues at first losing aggro on higher mobs but I taught him bite, growl and turned off the auto claw. Seemed to make a difference. Now he is leveled I can turn auto claw back on. Not sure though whether it is better to save focus for bite and growl only. Any thoughts?

Got killed getting the shipment but since servers were going down in 5 min I ghosted in, ressed at the boxes finished it and died on the way out. Anyway did it all and used the healer back in Gagetzan for turn ins. Great exp even without rested bonus. Leaves me just 5000 short of lvl 45. So should ding 45 tonight.

Now my problem is that I have about 6 quests in ZF and I need a few guildies to help. Either that or start spamming the LFG channel.

BTW there is a repeatable quest for rep with Gadgetzan. Is there any benefit to this.

Cheers

I went out of my way to visit Feathermoon because the expert alchemy trainer is there. I swam down from Desolace as I was quite low level, maybe under forty as I wasn't mounted.

I remember the pirates, I did the paladin AoE thing then with Pook. It's about the only fun you can have as a paladin. In Outlands the beasts are tougher and have DoT's, stuns or other nasty tricks. As a hunter it's the pet that gets these and you hardly notice them.

King B is a good pet but I was bothered by there being so many other KB's about. Since I had Tiddles from level 20 she is the one I will keep till 70 and I don't see so many ghost sabers. I'm glad I went to the effort of taming her.

I assume you are a Beast Master and have Bestial Discipline right? This is essential as it doubles the amount of focus the pet generates and makes them better able to continuously claw or bite. The Marksman equivalent is Go for the Throat. TBH I can't recall exactly since I rarely worry about it and right now and servers are down but I think Tiddles has bite, growl and dash on auto, maybe claw too. I never found claw to be so bad as a focus sink, Tiddles still manages to growl enough to hold agro except against higher level mobs, maybe three levels up. When I try turning claw off auto I don't notice much difference. Losing agro now and then is not such a bad thing: keeps you on your toes smile UPDATE: may look into preserving focus so Dash is available more often. Not sure if it's a lack of focus or the 30 second cooldown but she isn't always dashing into fights.

I'm not sure at all about why anyone would want gadgetzan reputation. If the quest you mention if the hippoglyph egg one, there may be nice rewards if you get a good egg. I tried it twice and got one fine egg which had some ok-ish reward that I can't remember, a pot or scroll or something like that. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you have to go to Feralas and get a Hippoglyth egg to put in the egg machine. It's a pain as you can only carry one egg at a time and it's a long way to the nest. The eggs are at (56,76) if you are interested but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one.

I think you could start Feralas at 45, you may find it easy. Stick around the middle where there are tauren to kill ( smile ), yeti and ogres, as well as the Hippoglyphs. There are level 48's up and down the coast but even these are killable. I found Feralas ok as a level. You might want to investigate taming the white flying snake (Thottbot). It's rare spawn and level 49 but BRK seems to rate Lightning Breath. I've missed it now, the higher level you get as a player the more you need a good pet and I don't want to be levelling one up. I'd be interested to know what you think about it if you get one.

Yeah, they are elites, they might be a bit hard.

Ooo, another thing you could do is get groups for Strat on Pooky, if you've started the mount quest you should get the point you need the Holy Water, they may drop Runecloth in strat and you can get your water for your mount quest at the same time. Just a thought :D

Probably so for Mae at 57. I have thought about using pook to grind the runecloth. He could manage those elites when he was 60 although they were long fights then so not practical for grinding. May be feasible now.

A guildie is organising a Scholo run next week and I put Mae's name down for that (it's at a convenient time!). I think he wants it for the same reason I do: to get access to the top Azeroth Alchemy recipes like Major Mana Potion (would LOVE that for Mae and Pook).

Then again, the raid is next thursday and I would hope Mae would be sixty by then and already riding her epic saber.

My main focus with the rep grinding has got to be the Darnassus quests: the silliest little quest to go find some landmark gives 250 rep which would be equivalent to killing 16 level 60 elites that dropped four runecloth each. Runecloth and morrowgrain are backup plans in case I run out of quests. (reminds me, I run out of un'goro soil and it was 30g for 100 on the AH sad Better get my shovel out).
